Raising Sheep

Sheep are great animals to have on a sustainable farm but you will need to have a bit of space. Sheep are herd animals, so they should have at least one friend. I have known people that have a goat and a sheep and that works okay but they never seem quite as happy as sheep with sheep friends. As a general rule to pasture feed your sheep you need about 1/2 acre per sheep. With a healthy pasture the sheep can actually get all of its nutrients from the pasture (with a salt and mineral block added). This will keep your costs down. In California, where we live, that means you need to water your pasture so keep this in mind when considering if sheep are right for your farm.

By not planting your plants in rows but in small blocks you are mimicking nature keeping more moisture in the ground.
